Rocks

I purchased one of those Schaum's 3000 Solved Problems things, and was working through some problems therein at lunch ... and was brought face to face with one of the signs that my algebra still kind of sucks: I find problems involving absolute value to be very slippery.

Of course, the chapters in this thing do a good job of progressively ratcheting up the complexity level, so one starts out with simple equations but soon winds up being asked to do proofs by induction. Guh.

Now, if there is one thing I am weak on (is there anything on which I am strong? it doesn't feel like it) it is proofs. We did some basic proofs in Calculus A a couple of years ago, but ... well, nowhere near enough to stick to the ripply inside of my skull.

So I am seeking additional practice in absolute value, inequalities and limit proofs. All while trying to streak through a traditional calculus curriculum in about eight weeks. Whee, indeed. I am essentially reading almost nothing but math. I figure if I can crush my life over this way and leave it this way -- at least for a while -- I just might learn something. I have to get my old power of concentration back.
